South Africa Part 1
After a long flight with a lay-over in Doha we finally arrived in Johannesburg! After advice from friends and family, we decided to only stay for a couple of hours in Johannesburg and then go to Pretoria. That was definitely a great advice, because I did not feel very comfortable in Johannesburg. We took a Hop-on Hop-off bus for three hours and then drove to Pretoria where we had a perfect accommodation through Airbnb. Pretoria is a lovely small town with looks beautiful with their signature trees. I wish we could have spent a night longer here. Our next stop was Graskop where we did the Panorama Route. It is famous for its beautiful waterfalls, pot holes, and views. We were lucky with the weather and even at God’s window (view point), the fog cleared up. It was a great day, but the best was yet the come. I was looking forward to this day for a long time, the Kruger Park! Doing a safari has always been on the top of my bucket list and now the day had finally come. But what a disappointment..
My boyfriend, Martijn, has been to Namibia before and he showed me amazing pictures how it was possible to drive in a big field and see many animals around you. That is what I was expecting. But unfortunately in the Kruger Park you have to search for the animals since you can only stay on the paths and the animals are smart enough to not come close to the paths. So after one day we only saw some impala’s and steenbokken. But day 2 was a success! We spotted all the Big 5 (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, and Rhino), but unfortunately they were all so far away that I could not make a good video. So in the end we did spotted all the animals, even the giraffes and zebra’s, but it was not the safari I hoped. I will definitely go to Namibia once to explore the safari parks there! Below you will find my video from the first week.
